Jazz Cannon was born in Afghanistan – where life for women meant you were a piece of property, with no rights and no voice, covered yourself in a burqa and were subservient to the men in your family.
She still carries emotional scars of living in a war-torn country: rockets landing nearby and shattering the windows in her home, fleeing her country in search of safety … and now having a father in exile she hasn’t seen in years.
All these experiences have shaped Jazz into the powerful force she is today. An activist for women’s rights. An authority on Afghani women. An inspirational public speaker. A soon-to-be published author. An accredited immigration resettlement coach and mentor for women. Jazz is fluent in five languages and often acts as an interpreter and translator.
Jazz is convinced that everything happens to us in life for a reason – and that we can learn lessons from our trials and use them for good. Along her journey, she discovered her purpose is to empower women living in crisis. Her upcoming book is the story of how she overcame adversity and went on to flourish in her new life in the United States.
Since the fall of Kabul in August 2021, Legend has assisted more than 100 at-risk Afghans to safety including U.S. citizens, U.S. lawful permanent residents, Christians, Hazara minorities, and allies. Most recently, he returned to Afghanistan to personally aid in the evacuations.
